Let's Go Craig's Listing - Pair of Bookshelves

A pair of narrow bookshelves for a steal of a deal at $75.00!

You could paint them with this . . .

To make them look like this . . .

And you could use them like this . . .

Or this (image on the right).

I can't believe it's already Wednesday.  Hope your week is going well! M.

Let's Go Craig's Listing!

This summer has really been a whirl wind.  I can't believe school starts next week.  I feel like we've just gotten into a summer routine!  Last week, we were able to squeeze in one more trip to the beach, and it was so relaxing - very hot, but relaxing.  We rode bikes, skim boarded (not me!), made tons of drizzle castles, and had some delicious meals.  Now, it's time for back to school prep.  You know the routine - haircuts, new shoes, decent bed time hours, and booster shots!  Here we go!

With that said, let's distract ourselves with a trip to Craig's list.  Shall we?!  Here are my picks, along with thoughts and ideas on what I would do with these fantastic deals.

Basic Dresser ($150.00)
I'm seeing more and more of these used in living spaces.  They are popping up as a piece to place under a flat screen TV (that's hung on the wall) or in a room as a focal point with a pair of lamps and a cool piece of artwork hung above.

As is, it's not really that exciting, but the basic shape is perfect for a little DIY project that will inject a huge amount of modern style.   First, I would remove the hardware and paint the entire piece a gray or cream.

Then I would order these amazing O'verlays and apply to the front to get this look.  I would paint them either the gold, white or the same color as the furniture piece.

The above is my favorite design (and it's on sale right now), but I also love the greek key below and the oval circle pattern.  All of them would work amazingly well with this dresser.

So, again, from this . . .

To this . . .

And no, I am not being paid for this advertisement!  In fact, I'm really wishing they were my invention at this point!!  BTW, a huge thank you to the ever snarky Bri at You, Me and a Wiener for introducing me to this product.

Console Table ($69.00)
This looks like a sturdy well made piece, and for under $100, it's a true deal.  Console tables are so versatile.  They work behind a sofa, in a narrow entryway or hall, as a buffet table in a small dining room, or even as a focal piece for a large wall (i.e., place chairs on either side of it and a large cool piece of artwork above it).

So, what would I do with it?  Well, paint to the rescue on this one.  Depending on the style of your home, I would consider a bold color in a lacquered finish (if your space is modern) or a chalk paint (if you have a more traditional space or lots of french country furnishings).

For a modern space, sort of like this. . .

This is a more neutral look.

Or you could go with a turquoise color for a soothingly modern vibe.

Now for the chalk paint example with a French Country look like this . . .

Hopefully, these have inspired you to look beyond the finish of a furniture piece for more possibilities.  Have a marvelous Monday! M.

Website Highlight - The Queen of Craig's List

I have a little treat for you today!  The Queen of Craig's List  is a weekly post blog by Danielle from Washington, DC.  Danielle has a primary blog, Fresh Quince, where she posts daily thoughts on interior design and other hip and happening stuff.

But, every Friday, she selects a city in the US  and puts together a list of all the great Craig's list finds for that week.  I'm always shocked and inspired by what she finds.  If you have time, pop on over and check out the deals!

Danielle, when are you coming to Birmingham?!?!!

Craig's List Finds

Please excuse this repost!  Blogger has been down for 24 hours, and I have not been able to draft a new post for today.  I promise to show you something new on Monday!  In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Just saw these finds and had to share.

Dresser w/ Mirror ($150)

I think this is a pretty good deal.  If you could get it for $75, it would be a fantastic deal.

With a little paint and new hardware, you could get the look of a Dorothy Draper chest.

And some room inspiration for the chest.

Bow Front Dresser ($300)
Again, this is a good deal, but would be even better if you could get it for $200 or less.

For this piece, you could use it as a buffet or focal point piece in a family room with maybe a modern vibe.

Or, you could leave it as is and create a sink/vanity out of it in the Master Bathroom.
Like this.

Happy Thursday! M.

Mid Week Craig's List

We are having horrible weather today with 80 mile an hour winds.  We awoke to the sound of falling trees in our neighborhood (not a good sound, and I hope you never hear it)!  So, this is a quick post.

I haven't put together a Craig's list post in quite awhile so I thought a little mid week search was in order.  I found one really great find.
Brass & Glass Console Table ($60)

Here are a few ways to utilize a table like this.

For those of you in our area, please stay safe and dry!! M.

Let's Go Craig's Listings - Random Stuff

Just took a quick peek on Craig's List in the Birmingham Area and look what I found!

Wing Back Chairs

These are such a find.  I am soooo tempted!  Great deal and fabulous lines to these chairs.  I really can't understand why they are being sold? The price is $75 for the pair.

http://bham.craigslist.org/fuo/2108376040.html

Looks a lot like this very high end wing back.  All it would take is a neutral fabric, box of nailheads and a good upholsterer who could easily add a skirt to them.

http://www.tonichome.com/catalog.php?item=1584&catid=1&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D1 ($1,065.00 each)

Hutch/Secretary Furnishings

Here are couple of secretary type pieces that could be left as is or if you wanted a modern vibe you could paint them in a high gloss lacquer.

This one will give you a more airy open feel due to the open leggy base.  You could use this as a focal point in a living room or for china in a dining room.  They are asking $350.00 and you could probably get it for a bit less.

It would really look great with the back of the shelving area painted, maybe this color.
BM blue porcelain 1641

Or you could add a seagrass wallpaper to the backs of the shelves and get this look.

Just because this piece is traditional does not mean that it won't work in a more modern home.  I like the idea of mixing a very traditional piece into an ultra modern home.

This Craig's list find is a heavier more substantial piece.  They are asking $550 for it; but if you could get it for $400, it would be a fabulous deal.  Again, if you have a traditional home, leave it as is (maybe paint or wallpaper the back of the shelving area).

Or you could paint it black and include it with more modern furnishing to get this look.

Danish Club Chairs

Danish High Back Chairs ($500 for the pair).  I would offer $350 for these.

They have a real modern feel to them - similar to this very high end club chair from 1st Dibbs ($1,200.00 each).

Duncan Phyfe Chairs

These I love as they are -  so feminine and traditional.  Would be stunning in the right space ($300 for the pair).

If you would like for me to go Craig's listing in your area, I would love to do.  Contact me for more information on this service!

Friday Finds

Here are a few Friday finds I thought were worth mentioning!  These are Craig's List finds around the Birmingham, Alabama.  But, I am confident you can find similar deals in your area if you just search and keep an open mind to alternative uses when you find a piece at the right price.

Small Buffet/Bar Server

This is a great piece that is very versatile and at $99.00 it's a steal of a deal.  The piece is a small buffet server, but you could easily use it as a bed side table in your master or even a bar/server in a den.

If I were going to us this as a bar/server, I would change out the hardware to something bolder.  Maybe this for a traditional look.

Or this for a more modern look.

Vanity/ Child's Desk

This piece is $75.00 (I would offer $50) and then paint the entire piece and add a piece of glass to the top for a hollywood glam look.

Pair of Twin Beds

Here is a basic pair of twin beds for $100.  The lines are curvy and feminine and have tons of potential.  Again, these could be painted any color or you could have pretty slipcovers made (that tie on the sides) and possibly include a monogram.

Here is picture of the slipcover I had in mind.

Armoire/Desk

This armoire is a bit rough; but if you could get it for $100.00 [they are asking $150], you would have a bargain on your hands.  I think this would look great in a bedroom or it could be repurposed as a desk.

I would repaint the entire piece Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige which comes off a bit more caramel than my computer screen is showing.  Then I would add a high gloss lacquer to finish the piece.
Then I would add these long pulls to the front to really bring the piece back to life.

I hope this little shopping excursion has inspired you!  Have a great weekend.
